TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some 4,000 mosques in Iran will host worshipers who are going to attend I’tikaf (seclusion for worship in a mosque) on the 13th to 15th of the lunar month of Rajab, an official said.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Hojat-ol-Islam Babakhani, director of the Islamic Development Organization’s Religious Associations Department, added that some 400,000 individuals are expected to attend the spiritual event this year.

He said registration for attending I’tikaf continues in cities and towns across the country.

The Islamic Development Organization has extensive plans for the three-day event (which falls on March 20-22 this year), the cleric stated.

I'tikaf is a form of worship performed by staying in a mosque for a certain time.

It is a tradition which has been in Islam from the first days of the Revelation.
